However, Mulhern's behavior raised suspicions for Christie, and he eventually realized that Mulhern was working for the FBI. Christie refers to a tape where Mulhern pressures him to kill someone, and Christie's frustration leads to some regrettable statements. He also discusses the "dirty tricks" campaign employed by the feds, which included accusing his mother of jury tampering and attempting to use her as leverage against him. Christie recounts an incident where a supposed prison escapee came to his mother's door, claiming Christie sent him, but she saw through the ruse. Eventually, it was revealed that the person was working with the feds. These revelations confirmed Christie's suspicions that Mulhern and others were working with law enforcement. Later, Christie confirms that he threw party for the jury that acquitted him as a way of antagonizing the feds.
