Rodman reportedly remarked that if Bird were playing today, he would be in Europe, a suggestion Wilkins classified as “delusional,” adding that he believes Bird could play in any era. Responding to Redick's assertion that Bird lacks the physicality for modern play, Wilkins dubbed it “stupid” and “selfish.” According to Wilkins, Bird thrived in what he thinks was the most physical NBA era, the 80s, and diminishing his skills is ridiculous in his opinion. When asked if these opinions arise from Bird being white, Wilkins said it doesn’t matter, emphasizing that Bird’s game was impressive regardless.
