Fred "The Hammer" Williamson revealed the motivation behind his 1972 film "The Legend of N***** Charlie," sharing how he tapped into the controversial atmosphere of the US at that time. The movie, which was about a slave turned gunfighter, created genuine interest and had a realistic plot, says Williamson. Despite the controversial name, he recalled how the film attracted diverse audiences, with white spectators in the mornings and a black crowd later in the day. The uniqueness of the film's theme spurred its popularity, leading to long lines at theaters and even a sequel. Williamson also hinted at Quentin Tarantino's film "Django" being loosely based on his movie. He commended Tarantino for the similarities and acknowledged their good relationship.
