Mendoza also shared his experience as an absent father, citing his criminal life as a reason for his decision to stay away from his son, who was raised by his mother. He acknowledges the irony in perpetuating the cycle of absent fathers that he himself fell victim to. But believes he was better off sparing his son from exposure to his criminal life.
