In this clip, Cheech talks about the beginning of his unusual career. When young, he wrote for a Canadian magazine, which led to his first assignment, interviewing Richard Pryor. The experience was unusual as Pryor gave the entire interview in bed, seemingly naked beneath the covers. After that, Cheech was assigned to interview Little Richard, memories made even more valuable by meetings in LA years later. When asked about the formation of his partnership with Tommy Chong, Cheech mentioned meeting Chong in Canada. Chong was running an unusual topless improv club. Joining the club as a writer, Cheech eventually started performing with the group. When the group needed to break up, Chong and Cheech decided to form a band, a lounge act with comedy bits. After gaining local popularity, they eventually moved to LA to make it in showbiz.
