Nicholas Irving commented on the current state of American politics and questioned why older politicians continue to be placed in positions of power. He called for fresh, youthful perspectives to be introduced into government and suggested that the country’s rulers are failing to reflect the needs of the average citizen, with the real winners being those who play the political game. He criticized the deeply entrenched system and called the current division between political parties akin to gang rivalry. Despite his criticism, Irving does not see himself as being fit for political office, expressing his belief that no one person should have the power to dictate the lives of others. Irving, ultimately, promoted the vision of a leader in his thirties or forties who has not yet been corrupted by the current system.
