Pete Rose shared memories of his first game with the Cincinnati Reds on April 8, 1963. Coming from Cincinnati himself, Rose described the thrill and nervousness of playing against the Pittsburgh Pirates, especially after his parents were invited onto the field. His various sources of pressure included the expectations placed on him due to the Reds' recent World Series appearance and his own rookie status. Despite a difficult start, Rose managed to score and later clinched the Rookie of the Year title. Even more memorable for him, he said, was receiving the news that he had been named Rookie of the Year while he was serving in the army, waxing the floor at Fort Knox.
