Rashard Mendenhall, former Pittsburgh Steelers player, spoke with Vlad about his NFL career and how he managed his finances. Despite his $12.55 million five-year contract, Mendenhall kept his upbringing from the Southside in mind, remembering that his NFL earnings, which he knew would come beside harsh taxes, needed to last him and his family for the long run. Mendenhall mentioned how as a child he knew he would be the one to change his family’s financial situation and although he was not aiming for millions, his signing salary would be enough to give the family a new start. He bought a modest home for his mother and kept his lifestyle small and humble to ensure financial stability for his future, something he learned from observing others fall deep into debt after initially earning large sums.
