Robert Ladd, a former Compton police officer, recently provided a harrowing account of what he called "10 days of hell" following the murder of Tupac Shakur in 1996. According to Ladd, he and his fellow officers were warning a major gang war was about to be waged in Compton, as they had anticipated revenge retaliation for the shooting of the famed rapper. Indeed, just two days following Tupac's murder, a shooting involving a main player of the Southside Crips, Darnell Brim, took place which was just the beginning of a violent spree killing 3 people and wounding 11 in attempted murders. Despite having dealt with numerous gang wars before, Ladd emphasized the intensity of this particular conflict due to its high-profile nature linking it with Tupac.
