UFC fighter Jorge Masvidal spoke candidly about his confrontation on a radio show with fellow fighter Kamaru Usman and negotiating a $5M fight. The face-off was neither planned nor associated with an already scheduled fight. During negotiations six or seven weeks prior to the fight, Masvidal demanded a more significant share of the pay-per-view sales, which led to an impasse. However, six days before the event, the originally assigned fighter contracted coronavirus, and Masvidal was asked to step in. He agreed, on condition that his previous demands be met, which they were, leading to one of his most lucrative fights. Despite losing, he valued the financial gain over his performance in the fight. He reflected on his journey from backyard scraps to multi-million-dollar events, feeling proud of achieving a satisfactory income for his family, while also dreaming of winning the world title belt. Masvidal and Usman later had a rematch.
