The crux of the case involved Von's codefendant, Big Mike, who Ross says mishandled things and contradicted the narrative, leading to his own incarceration and Von getting off scot-free. Ross considers the case outcome as "flukey luck" for Von, who kept quiet and let Big Mike take the blame. Big Mike, who cooperated during the trial, later faced an eight-year sentence for the murder. In the end, Von started his rap career while still being implicated in the murder. Ross also commented on King Von's seemingly dark energy, exhibited in interviews where Von touted his criminal history as a badge of honor. Ross points out that King Von seemed to operate with a 'kill for pleasure' mentality, which he found particularly disturbing.
