The disastrous Fyre Festival, organized by Billy McFarland, was officially canceled on a Thursday night after festival-goers had already begun arriving that morning. McFarland recalls the critical moment when a Miami-bound plane, full of passengers, was instructed mid-air to turn around, prompting the realization that there was no turning back from the unfolding catastrophe.

McFarland returned to New York by Sunday night, only to be greeted by the FBI at 5 a.m. Monday. He described this as the "scariest moment ever," recalling how his doorman attempted to help him escape, ultimately leading to a brief standoff before he met the FBI agents in the lobby.

Days prior, following the festival's cancellation, an investor aggressively warned McFarland that his failures would land him on the front page of The Wall Street Journal in handcuffs. Despite McFarland’s efforts to address the demands from the investor, it was too late. The festival's failure went viral, attracting federal scrutiny and culminating in McFarland being served with subpoenas and, about six weeks later, his arrest.
