With dwindling resources and mounting pressure, McFarland created a fraudulent scheme, NYC VIP Access, to make ends meet.
Offering experiences he couldn’t deliver—like dinner with LeBron James, Met Gala tickets, and exclusive event access—McFarland exploited his Fyre Festival email list. The scam reportedly grossed around $100,000, resulting in additional jail time beyond his festival charges and cementing his reputation as a con artist. Adding to his woes, McFarland defaulted on a $7 million loan tied to the Fyre Festival, forcing the company into bankruptcy.
