Victor Ortiz revisited his grueling 2012 fight against Josesito Lopez. Originally slated to fight Andre Berto, Ortiz faced Lopez after Berto failed a drug test. Ortiz’s jaw was broken in the fourth round, but despite pleading with his corner to stop the fight, they insisted he continue, thinking nothing was wrong. Ortiz fought through to the ninth round, each second intensifying his pain. Post-fight, Ortiz discovered he had a blood clot in both his left leg and lung. His jaw required two metal plates, 12 screws, and was wired shut. Ortiz reflected on the disbelief he endured, noting that many accused him of quitting.
