Erik Prince, founder of the private security firm Blackwater, shared insights into the Russia-Ukraine conflict and his claim of a missed opportunity to prevent it. Prince discussed historical interactions with Russian entities, including an overture in 2012 to build a Blackwater-style company in Russia, which he declined. Looking towards the 2022 invasion, Prince revealed he had warned US officials months before Russia's military action. He proposed a strategy to deter invasion by providing Ukraine with retired US combat aircraft, which were scheduled for decommissioning. Citing cost-effective measures, Prince suggested positioning 150 aircraft with contract pilots in Ukraine as a deterrent. He argued that this show of force, along with halting NATO expansion provocations, could have dissuaded Russia from advancing. While emphasizing pragmatism in military readiness, Prince criticized the long-term strategy behind the conflict, suggesting a war of attrition with a significantly larger adversary like Russia was inherently disadvantageous.
