Michael Nunn recounted his first career loss to James Toney in 1991, a match in which Toney was a 20-1 underdog. Nunn was initially slated to fight boxing legend Thomas "Hitman" Hearns, who moved up a weight class, leaving Nunn to face Toney instead. Reflecting on the bout, Nunn admitted, "James just was the better man that night," acknowledging Toney's superior preparation and performance. Although ahead on points after ten rounds, Nunn lost by knockout in the 11th round in his hometown of Davenport, Iowa. Guided by legendary trainer Angelo Dundee, who also coached icons like Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard, Nunn learned valuable lessons from the loss and cherished being part of Dundee’s storied roster of champions.
