Billy Garland shared details about his final conversation with his son, the legendary rapper Tupac Shakur, just weeks before his untimely death. Garland recounted how in August 1996, Tupac called him during the late hours, inviting him to spend Thanksgiving with family. Though Garland was initially groggy and unable to fully engage, the call left him feeling hopeful as he had been trying to reach Tupac, and was relieved to hear from him.
Garland also touched on the events of September 7, 1996, the night of the Mike Tyson fight in Las Vegas. Tyson and Tupac were close friends, and Tyson later expressed guilt about persuading Tupac to attend the fight. The atmosphere following the fight was charged, leading to the infamous altercation with Orlando Anderson, which Garland suggested might not have occurred if cooler heads had prevailed.
