In his first criminal trial, attorney Doug Weinstein took on a pivotal role by representing Yak Gotti in the high-profile YSL RICO case. Weinstein, part of the Abt Law Firm, unexpectedly became the primary attorney for Gotti due to his deep involvement with extensive case materials. The case originated from a feud between the YSL and YFN factions in 2015, culminating in the murder of Donovan "Nut" Thomas. Prosecutors alleged the murder was orchestrated by Young Thug, with Yak Gotti acting as the driver. The event triggered a series of violent retaliations, leading to RICO charges against Young Thug and 27 others, including Gotti. During the raid on Young Thug's residence, authorities found illegal firearms and substances, resulting in additional charges for those present. Despite initial skepticism towards Weinstein due to their unfamiliarity, Gotti's choice to hire the Abt Law Firm and subsequently trust Weinstein ultimately proved fortuitous.
