Peter Chin recounts his tumultuous past, describing tense episodes with law enforcement that dramatically changed his life. As a member of the notorious Ghost Shadows gang, Chin was involved in several high-profile shootouts, two of which involved off-duty police officers. The first incident occurred at the Jelly the Chocolate restaurant, where Chin and his associates engaged in a gun battle with officers, who were intoxicated and not supposed to be carrying firearms. The confrontation tragically resulted in the death of an innocent bystander, with ballistics later revealing the fatal bullet came from the officers. Consequently, charges against Chin and his accomplices were dropped, and the officers faced internal disciplinary actions. In a subsequent 1975 shootout, Chin faced arrest again. Despite lying about his age to be placed in juvenile detention, it was revealed he was 16 and sent to Rikers Island. Reflecting on his eight months there, Chin remarked on its harrowing nature, claiming that surviving Rikers meant you could endure any U.S. prison.
