John "Red" Shea shares how notorious Boston mob boss Whitey Bulger recruited him into the Irish mob. Initially, Shea navigated the dangerous world of Boston's narcotics trade as a lone wolf. Acknowledging the significant risk of dealing on Bulger's turf, Shea recounts his audacious strategy to survive and thrive. He explains that his unconventional approach attracted the mob's attention, ultimately leading to an enticing offer from Bulger's crew.
Shea was first approached by Mickey, a top lieutenant in Bulger's operation. Recognizing Shea's valuable connections, they proposed a partnership allowing him to keep his clientele while distributing their product, thus significantly increasing his earnings. After contemplating the offer, Shea agreed to join the Irish mob, eventually overseeing the entire operation that extended from Boston to Florida.
