Lou Diamond Phillips recounted a harrowing accident he suffered while filming "Young Guns II." After the success of films like "La Bamba" and "Stand and Deliver," Phillips felt he had arrived in Hollywood, joining a young star-studded cast including Charlie Sheen, Emilio Estevez, and Kiefer Sutherland in "Young Guns." While reprising his role as Chavez in the sequel, Phillips faced a life-threatening accident involving a challenging scene with an ill-tempered horse named Arrow. An improvised scene called for him to ride into an alley with a noose around his neck and explosive effects. Despite his intuition that the fearful horse would react unpredictably, production pressed on. The horse ultimately bolted, dragging Phillips by the neck across rugged terrain for 100 yards before his knee hit a railroad tie, snapping the rope and saving his life. The incident left him with a broken arm and damaged kneecap, with a medical helicopter rushing him to surgery. Phillips reflects on the accident as a chilling yet profound lesson in trusting one's instincts.
