Palomares recounted how he orchestrated fake police raids to rob dealers, motivated by anger and betrayal he felt during the infamous Rampart Scandal which implicated several LAPD officers. Feeling disillusioned by the department's investigatory actions against his colleagues, Palomares decided to use his position for personal gain. Engaging with a contact involved in trafficking, he instructed his handpicked crew of officers to orchestrate a raid. Utilizing a captain's car from the police academy to disguise their criminal activity, Palomares and his team successfully netted $1 million in cash and 15 kilos of valued at around $250,000. Of the illicit haul, Palomares retained $700,000 after paying his accomplices.
