David Packouz, famously portrayed in the 2016 film "War Dogs" by Miles Teller, found himself deep in the world of arms dealing after a chance meeting with childhood friend Efraim Diveroli. Packouz, originally from St. Louis and raised in an Orthodox Jewish household as one of nine children, reconnected with Diveroli after several years. Diveroli, whose family had ties to arms dealing through government contracts, left a significant impression on Packouz by showing him a bank account with $1.8 million earned in just one year.
Intrigued by the lucrative potential, Packouz joined Diveroli's company, AEY Inc., aiming to utilize his skills in overseas sourcing and logistics. The partnership, initially based on a handshake agreement, promised significant profits and saw Packouz focusing on non-traditional contracts like fuel. However, as the business grew and the stakes increased, the lack of a formal contract became an issue, highlighting the challenges of maintaining trust amid booming success.
