Hector Bravo emphasized that since 2015 an unexpected peace emerged with the Mexican Mafia ceasing conflicts with other races, unsettling prison administrators. This truce unexpectedly frustrated California prison officials, leading them to orchestrate conditions, mixing gang members with known snitches to spark violence internally. Despite attempts to destabilize, gang members are resorting to hunger strikes, pressing for humane treatment. These protests have become potent as the California Department of Corrections fears public scrutiny and oversight following such hunger strikes, as Bravo explained.
