Rashia Wilson, despite thriving in a legitimate business and enjoying a luxurious lifestyle with NFL players, got embroiled in tax fraud starting around 2010. She elaborated on her transition from a full-blown legal businesswoman to becoming entangled in fraudulent activities. Wilson was drawn into Florida's prevalent fraudulent practices, including a notable tax refund scheme targeting self-employed individuals such as barbers and hairstylists. The allure of receiving hefty tax returns quickly unfurled, with Wilson recounting how she experimented with filing fraudulent returns anonymously to hefty payoffs.
Despite having a legitimate business, she didn't use her tax fraud proceeds for supporting her business but rather for sustaining an extravagant lifestyle. While Wilson rejected the notion of teaching tax fraud, she acknowledged how rampant such practices were in Tampa and how people exchanged methods informally. She critically noted how lax IRS regulations enabled this fraudulent wave, even allowing manipulated tax forms to receive direct deposits without verification.
