Hernandez Govan shed light on a tense encounter involving Young Dolph’s killer, Cornelius Smith. Govan was working to sign Memphis Straight Drop to CMG in 2021. During a meeting at his house with label affiliates, Smith unexpectedly showed up and delivered a startling message: that Dolph had planned a hit on Yo Gotti. Govan admitted he had previously only heard about attempts on Dolph’s life, not the other way around. He immediately dismissed the information and refocused on the music business, emphasizing he had no interest in the violent feud. The attempted record deal with Straight Drop ultimately fell through, but the meeting exposed the dangerous undercurrents within Memphis’ rap scene.
