Criminal defense attorney Manny Arora shed light on the challenges facing lawyers today, emphasizing that practicing law is far from a lucrative career for most. Arora explained that unlike the high-profile cases involving celebrities, which garner media attention and big paychecks, the vast majority of lawyers handle hundreds of cases with limited resources and low compensation. Public defenders and appointed lawyers often earn as little as $40 to $50 an hour, making it difficult to provide thorough defense. Arora highlighted how social media and the internet have intensified public scrutiny, making fair trials harder to achieve. He also noted that many defendants, especially minorities, plead guilty under pressure due to the threat of lengthy sentences and unaffordable legal fees. While a select few top attorneys represent wealthy clients, Arora insists that most in the profession struggle financially, enduring heavy caseloads and tough ethical dilemmas.
