Gloria Velez, famed video vixen, revealed the harrowing struggles her family faced when her father contracted HIV in the early 1990s. After landing a job at Coca-Cola in Florida, her dad was diagnosed during a mandatory physical. Faced with the grim prognosis that HIV was a death sentence then, he spiraled back into substance abuse. Gloria shared how her father became a “guinea pig” for experimental HIV medications, which, rather than helping, worsened his condition, causing severe side effects like shingles and drastic weight loss. She believes the early meds deteriorated his health, compounded by his ongoing substance abuse.
