In the wake of the recent Dallas ICE facility shooting, Army veteran and former sniper Sergeant Nicholas Irving offered insight into the weapon reportedly used by the gunman. According to Irving, the shooter likely wielded an older-style Mauser rifle, identifiable by its “stripper clip” loading system rather than a modern magazine. This bolt-action rifle, dating back to around World War II, fires powerful 8mm rounds known for causing devastating internal damage due to their high velocity and kinetic energy. Irving noted that the use of such a weapon suggests the shooter may have been older or less familiar with contemporary firearms. Despite its vintage design, the Mauser remains lethal, with rifle wounds drastically reducing survival chances compared to pistol shots.
