Michael Cooper opened up about his early role helping Jerry West scout Kobe Bryant in the mid-1990s. Cooper recalls being immediately impressed by Kobe’s unique combination of size, skill, and work ethic during their initial workouts. “Jerry said, ‘He’s the one,’” Cooper remembers, highlighting Kobe’s standout potential even at a young age. However, Cooper also candidly discussed a challenging period after leaving the Lakers coaching staff in 1997. Struggling with alcohol, he credits Jerry West for intervening and sending him to rehab. Reflecting on that time, Cooper described it as life-changing, allowing him to gain a new perspective and turn his life around.
