Beginning in 1998, McElearney’s team secured 71 convictions and solved 11 murders, using groundbreaking tactics that saw members across all mafia ranks testify against one another.

The parallels between the DeCavalcante family and *The Sopranos* are striking. Both feature a mob boss who dies of stomach cancer, control over unions, illegal strip clubs, and even internal scandals involving a gay mobster’s murder. The DeCavalcante's involvement in stock fraud and their frequenting of a local meat market also found their way into the show’s plotlines.
