Vonoff1700 reflects on the painful loss of his uncle, Jovan—known as Shorty Black—who was fatally shot outside his grandmother’s house when Vonoff was just eight years old. Growing up close to his uncle, who often babysat him and his siblings, the tragedy deeply affected him. Vonoff vividly recalls visiting the crime scene with family, noticing the neighborhood’s shift as it was renamed “SBG” in Shorty’s memory.

Despite the trauma, Vonoff never received formal therapy, sharing how his family pushed him to suppress his grief in a tough environment. He also opened up about lacking a relationship with his father, highlighting his mother’s strong role in raising him. The pain of losing loved ones continued when his best friend Anton was killed as a teenager. After these experiences, Vonoff moved back and forth between his hometown and Atlanta, navigating life shaped by loss and resilience.
