NBA veteran Tim Thomas opened up in a VladTV interview about his challenging upbringing in Paterson, New Jersey, during the crack epidemic of the 1980s and ’90s. Growing up in a neighborhood crippled by drug addiction and crime, Thomas recalled the harsh reality where "everybody was either selling or using." To escape, he turned to sports as a lifeline.

Thomas also revealed a tragic family story: his brother, involved in hustling during those turbulent times, fatally assaulted a junkie who had stolen their stash. The incident resulted in prison time for his brother’s accomplice. Raised by a single mother as the youngest of five siblings, Thomas navigated a tough environment marked by instability but found hope through basketball, which became his path out of hardship. Standing 6'6" by sixth grade, his talent quickly developed, setting the stage for his later NBA success.
