DEA Agent Abe Collins recently detailed a major investigation targeting a Memphis-based cocaine trafficking ring that operated across eight states, including Chicago, Orlando, and Texas. The operation involved shipments averaging 200 kilograms of cocaine every two weeks, often concealed in refrigerated trucks transporting produce. At the height of the operation, cocaine prices in Memphis ranged from $18,000 to $25,000 per kilogram, making each shipment worth between $4 million and $5 million.

Collins highlighted the extensive network and various smuggling techniques used to transport cocaine from Colombia through Mexico and into the U.S. The DEA task force in Memphis played a crucial role in halting these large-scale deliveries. A pivotal bust occurred in June 2002, when they intercepted 50 kilograms of cocaine linked to key underlings, leading to the eventual downfall of the trafficking ring’s leader. This major case marked a significant victory in disrupting high-level drug trafficking in the region.
