Despite his interest in Wild 'n Out, Davis felt the audition process was disrespectful, especially watching cast members performing outrageous, uninhibited comedy styles that didn't align with his own thoughtful approach. His friend Niles Evans advised him that Wild 'n Out’s raw spontaneity might not suit Davis’s structured comedic style.
Conversely, Larry David and the Curb team trusted Davis’s ability to improvise without a script, giving him a chance to shine as a TSA agent. Davis recounts making Larry David break character with an on-the-spot joke, proving his comedic range extends beyond writing. This experience not only challenged Davis’s own perceptions but also helped him break free from being pigeonholed, affirming his talent in both structured and improvised comedy.
