A century ago, English writer and philosopher Aldous Huxley warned that mass consumption of passive entertainment would limit our ability to create, connect and think critically. Today, his concerns might be more valid than ever, as digital platforms like Netflix and TikTok encourage users to binge-watch and scroll endlessly.

At the same time, new platforms mean new spaces for different kinds of storytelling, and greater opportunities for marginalized communities to gain visibility and share their experiences.

This debate explores whether modern entertainment is numbing our brains, or if it still has the power to ignite imagination, reflection and connection.
