By 2050, nearly 70% of the world’s population will live in cities. As we move toward that future, competing visions are shaping urban life. Should cities be denser, more productive, and built to compete globally? Should they prioritize dignity, community and justice? Can they even survive amid ecological limits and overplanning?

This Doha Debates town hall, presented in partnership with Qatar’s Years of Culture initiative and moderated by award-winning journalist Malika Bilal, explores how we might reinvent the city. Hosted at Usina del Arte in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the debate brings together expert guests, students and recent graduates to examine what future cities should look like—and who they should serve.
