They tried for several minutes to make contact with the man who then opened the door and shot at a deputy sheriff standing on the front porch, the news release said.
Deputy Sara Vaught was not injured.
According to the release, she immediately returned fire and shot the suspect several times.
The sheriff’s office says Lance Runion, 56, has been charged with attempted murder and felonious assault in connection with the incident.
