Trump just dodged a proverbial bullet, because his head is constantly in motion. Swerving his head a few inches provided more than the margin between a bloodied ear and a bullet in the brain. Trump's head, and body, are almost constantly in motion, due to his ADHD.
ADHD is based on observable, objective patterns of inattentive, hyperactive, and impulsive behaviors, displayed in a multitude of settings, to an excessive degree for one's age and cultural background. Although symptoms of hyperactivity often diminish with age, many adults with ADHD continue to display persistent patterns of excessive fidgeting, pacing, facial expressions and hand gestures, talking, and interrupting of others.
In particular, excessive head movements are so prevalent in those with ADHD that there are special protocols for interpreting the results of brain scans for these individuals. Companies have developed diagnostic tests for ADHD based on the excessive tiny head movements made by those with ADHD.
Just as with any other individual with ADHD, Trump has a number of additional strengths, vulnerabilities and quirks of genetics and experience that make him an individual. People with ADHD are not all alike, just as all Americans, all men, or all individuals with depression are not alike.
ADHD is not a trivial condition, it measurably disrupts education, derails careers, and destroys relationships. Even if this instance ADHD saved a life, far more commonly it shortens lifespans. We need to keep reducing stigma and ignorance about ADHD. Millions who have the condition remain undiagnosed.
Perhaps we can use recent events as a teaching opportunity to learn more about ADHD. Knowing more about ADHD will save lives.
