YouTube Description
as posted by the channelMain Chapters:
Qelbree (viloxazine) was approved in 2021 for treating ADHD, becoming the first new substance in a decade recognized by the FDA to be effective for this purpose.
Viloxazine was developed in the 1970's as an anti-depressant, and used as such in Europe for two decades. It also had orphan drug status in the US for treating narcolepsy in the mid 1980's. Originally thought to be a simple norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, its mechanism of action remains unclear, but probably involves action on serotonin 2B and 1C receptors as well.
It appears to be as effective as other non-stimulants in the treatment of ADHD, with less likelihood of cardiovascular side effects than many stimulants and non-stimulants.
