Amantadine as one of the very first anti-viral agents, effective at treating and preventing influenza A. It was then found useful in Parkinsonism, and was a mainstay of treating that neurological conditions for decades, presumably because of dopamine boosting ability. More recently, amantadine has garnered the attention of researchers because it has anti-inflammatory, and glutamate blocking properties. Limited evidence indicates it can be helpful for some individuals with ADHD.
