In 2019, the FDA approved a trigeminal nerve stimulation device called the Monarch for treating ADHD based on studies in 86 kids, which seemed to indicate that it worked. Yet in January of 2026, a larger European-based study found that there was no difference between the placebo group and the group receiving the trigeminal nerve stimulation.
A 2026 study, although it didn't find a difference between treatment and placebo or sham treatment, did show that both groups improved about 10-12 points on the ADHD rating scales, and that's comparable to effect size as we see in other studies.
