YouTube Description
as posted by the channelOrexin is a polypeptide neurotransmitter intimately involved in regulating wakefulness and sleep. Belsomra, Dayvigo, and Quviviq are orexin receptor blockers used to treat insomnia, and some of modafinil/Provigil's actions seem to come from activating orexin neurons in the hypothalamus. The most common type of narcolepsy derives from destruction of these orexin neurons, and now Takeda Pharmaceuticals is on the verge of gaining FDA approval of the orexin receptor activator, oveporexton, to treat narcolepsy. Study results indicate that oveporexton increases daytime wakefulness, improves sleep, and decreases other symptoms of narcolepsy. Given the extensive symptom overlap between ADHD and narcolepsy, some day orexin agonists may be used for treating ADHD.
