Modafinil is FDA approved to treat daytime sleepiness associated with narcolepsy, sleep apnea, and shift work schedules, but helps improve arousal and alertness in a much broader range of conditions. Several studies also indicate it can alleviate symptoms of ADHD. Unlike most stimulants, it's primary actions do not appear to be norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake, so it has less impact on blood pressure and heart rate, and less potential for addiction or causing psychosis.
