WebsiteIn my journey through psychiatry training, I've noticed a troubling patterna reluctance to prescribe controlled medications and a stigma around benzodiazepines. This attitude has left patients feeling marginalized and struggling to access their essential medications. As a telepsychiatrist, I've seen firsthand the challenges patients face, from abrupt medication cuts to protracted withdrawal. Despite these perceived efforts to prevent a “benzodiazepine crisis” akin to another opioid crisis, policies often hinder access to proper care and almost seem to create a selffulfilling prophecy. It's time for a shift in approach to prioritize patient wellbeing and improve education and accountability in prescribing practices. #mentalhealth #psychiatry #benzodiazepines #telepsychiatry
