At 19, Andrea was prescribed Prozac after a rushed OB-GYN visit despite having no history of mental illness. That one prescription led to two decades on psychiatric drugs, failed withdrawals, and devastating symptoms: brain zaps, akathisia, insomnia, and even suicidal thoughts.
In this interview, Andrea shares how withdrawal attempts became progressively worse, why doctors misdiagnosed her suffering as relapse, and how she eventually developed protracted withdrawal. She also reflects on the grief of realizing her life had been chemically numbed, and the fight to feel alive again.
Now free from medication, Andrea is thriving and offers hope to anyone struggling with the same journey.
