American Journalist In China Says Containment Of Coronavirus Has Been A ‘Long, Slow Road’

Award-winning American television journalist Jonathan Betz has lived in Beijing since 2017, where he currently works as an anchor and field reporter for China Global Television Network.

Betz says he recently spent two weeks confined in his apartment in compliance with the Chinese government's measures to contain the coronavirus outbreak.

“It’s been really, really difficult,” he says, adding, “Part of that is just because of fear of the unknown.”

Betz says that while he is now able to move about the city, most businesses are closed, and restrictions are still in place. He also says that though progress has been made in China in keeping the disease from spreading further, “It’s been a very long, slow road, and we are still not out of it.”
