Kaila and Isaac say surgery to correct their 11-month-old son’s heart defect has been postponed indefinitely due to the diversion of non-emergency medical care stemming from the coronavirus pandemic. Additionally, the couple, who also has four older children at home, says life has become even more stressful since they both lost their jobs because of the outbreak.

Psychiatrist, brain disorder specialist and author Dr. Daniel Amen, joins the couple via video conference on Tuesday’s Dr. Phil, where he reminds Kaila and Isaac that, as difficult as things are, they need to exercise self-care. “If you don’t take care of yourself, you’re not going to be able to be there in a good way for all of the children,” he says. “So, this is the most important time of your life to practice mental hygiene.”
