As hospitals around the country brace for a surge of patients diagnosed with the coronavirus, many say they are understaffed and fear shortages of personal protective equipment to keep their workers on the front lines safe.

TELL DR. PHIL YOUR STORY: Are you involved in a story making headlines?

Nurses in New York City, the epicenter of the outbreak in the United States, have died, and hundreds of medical care workers have become sick. Anthony Ciampa, Vice President of the New York State Nurses Association, joins Dr. Phil on Monday’s episode to give a firsthand view of what nurses are experiencing in New York.

“We do not have enough personal protective equipment to deal with the outbreak of the coronavirus today,” he says. “We feel that we’re not in a safe situation; we’re far from a safe situation.”

Ciampa says they need N95 masks, goggles, visors, ventilators, and more staffing. “The level of anxiety that we operate with now is through the roof,” he says.

Hear more from Ciampa in the video above. And, Dr. Phil shares a simple way people can decompress and de-stress.
