‘God Forbid That We All Become Carriers Of COVID-19,’ Says Fired Amazon Warehouse Worker

Former Amazon employee Chris Smalls claims that when he brought up concerns that the company was not adequately protecting workers from exposure to the novel coronavirus in its Staten Island warehouse, he was allegedly told that the company was following CDC guidelines, and because there were no confirmed cases in the facility at the time, there was “no need to panic.”

Chris, who claims he was fired from the retail giant after organizing a protest over safety concerns, then made headlines when he wrote an open letter to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos.

“I believe that I had to do this for a purpose,” says Chris, noting that there are over 800,000 Amazon employees worldwide.

Continuing, he says, “God forbid that we all become carriers of COVID-19.”

In a recent statement, Amazon spokesperson Kristen Kish denies Chris’s claims. She insists that the company didn’t terminate his employment for organizing a protest, “We terminated his employment for putting the health and safety of others at risk and violating the terms of his employment.”
